Announcing our New Olympian Scholarship

We are pleased to announce the first scholarship for Olympians to be offered from a chiropractic education institution in Europe. Working closely with FICS – the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic – the McTimoney College is proud to provide a route to becoming a chiropractor for those engaged in any Olympic sport.

We recognise the commitment and dedication it takes to compete in sports at Olympic level. Our students also demonstrate the same commitment and dedication in their studies.

We therefore believe that our unique Master of Chiropractic (MChiro) programme, which is designed for those who want to continue to work whilst studying, is the perfect way to combine training at the highest levels in sport with training to become a chiropractor.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in this opportunity, we are recruiting now for our January 2022 intake. Please contact us here.

Qualification & Registration

Under the terms of the UK legislation, individuals will not be able to practise as a Chiropractor unless they are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC), the Statutory body responsible for regulating chiropractic.  The McTimoney College of Chiropractic has been assessed by the GCC and its qualifications have been formally “recognised” as providing the  necessary skills, knowledge and experience for the safe and competent practice of chiropractic.  Graduates holding recognised qualifications are eligible to apply for registration as a chiropractor.   Applicants should be aware that possession of a recognised qualification is not the only requirement for registration.  Evidence of good health, both mental and physical, and good character are also assessed by the Registrar.  Applicants should therefore declare any health problems and any criminal convictions at interview, so that they may be reviewed by the College staff and appropriate advice given.

The McTimoney College of Chiropractic offers a four year (full time) and a five year (full time extended) Masters in Chiropractic, both of which are recognised by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).  The four and five year programmes are both accredited by the European Council on Chiropractic Education (ECCE). This means that you have the ability to work in European states that recognise the ECCE and are eligible to sit entry examinations in most accredited areas worldwide. We advise all applicants to check in advance the legal status of any countries or states that may be of interest to them.

Becoming a Chiropractor

Becoming a ChiropractorBecoming a Chiropractor provides a clear picture of what embarking on a career in chiropractic really involves.

This book will provide all the background information you need!

Snippets from the book:

    • “Now the whole family goes to our chiropractor.  A kind of weekly ‘tune up’.  Take it from me, the chiropractic advocate who has absolutely no agenda at all – it’s a remarkable therapy that society really should know much, much more about.”
Quentin Willson.  British TV presenter and motoring expert
    • “The process of researching and identifying a career that you are most suited to can be a somewhat daunting process, but the rewards of following a career that truly engages you should not be underestimated.”
Matt Green, Director of Professional Development
    • ‘Becoming a chiropractor is a very personal journey.  Perhaps you have been helped by chiropractic, or maybe a friend or a member of your family has told you about their experiences, and this has got you thinking about whether or not chiropractic is the career for you.  It may be that you are interested in health generally and are exploring a number of different options.  The fact that you are reading this means that you are seriously considering either embarking on a new career, or a change in career, and want to know how to go about it and what the implications might be.
    • This book will provide you with more information about chiropractic, but it also aims to offer you different perspectives that might help you to make your decision. It starts off by telling you a little bit about chiropractic and what chiropractors do, but it will also talk about the patient’s perspective and the things that you can do after you graduate such as work with children, or animals or in sports. It will explain about the application process and looks at the various training options open to you, which include full-time options as well as those specifically designed for people wanting to return to study while they are in work. It also goes into detail about the specifics of the training and describes the student journey.”
Professor Christina Cunliffe, Fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractors
    • “As with all high demand careers, chiropractic can surely be seen as a lifestyle choice — a lifestyle that helps people on their pathway to health!  Perhaps at the moment you are sitting at a desk working in an office.  Maybe you enjoy some of what you do at work but are ready for a change.  Possibly you have been made redundant or coming up for early retirement but are not yet ready to give up work altogether.  All in all, the chances are that your current lifestyle no longer suits you.  As a chiropractor at your lifestyle will be very different.  You will almost certainly be self-employed and able to choose how and when you want to practise.  Essentially you will be in control of your own destiny.”
Valerie Pennacchio, Vice Principal, McTimoney College of Chiropractic
    • “Chiropractic is the best kept secret in health care.  It presents the opportunity to help patients, to make a real difference to people’s lives and to enter a fulfilling and rewarding profession.  Deciding to become a chiropractic student will be one of the biggest decisions you will ever make, and embarking on a career in chiropractic will change your perception of the world and provide you with great opportunities.”
Peter Dixon, Past Chair, General Chiropractic Council
    • “Chiropractic training is not an easy option.  The programme requires you to be good with your brain and also with your hands.  Throughout the training, you have to be ready to challenge your own ideas about the world and about yourself, and you have to be prepared to work hard to develop your skills.  Support is available however, and all your fellow students are travelling the same road.  A real community develops, in which people quickly learn not only to give help to any fellow student but also, importantly, to ask for help too. My time at college brought me the bonus of new friends – and I am grateful to every one of them for helping me make it such a memorable and priceless journey.  Strength, hard work and determination are a few of the many words to describe what was required to achieve this degree, all of which was made possible by the guidance and support provided by everybody at the College’.
      Mary Young – new graduate
