College joins forces with the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic (FICS)

We are pleased to share the following press release from the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic:

World Olympic Scholarship Program:

FICS are excited to announce the addition of McTimoney College of Chiropractic to our World Olympian Scholarship Program. The program is now celebrating its 20th year, with ten participating Colleges and Universities providing full academic scholarships for Olympians wishing to move into careers in chiropractic.  Olympians selected for this program serve as Ambassadors for the Olympic Movement and Chiropractic as advocates for how the profession fundamentally enhanced the Olympian’s athletic pursuit.

The College fully supports the work of FICS nationally and internationally, and that is why we have offered our scholarship to the MChiro programme as part of the FICS Olympian scholarship programme – the only one in Europe to do so.  FICS provides incredible backing for students through seminars and other activities that support them on their journey to becoming a chiropractor working with sports men and women at all levels.  In support of this, the College has launched a new Sports Club to run alongside the existing Philosophy, Business, Research, Library and Chiropractic Technique Clubs.  These clubs are designed to provide extracurricular experiences for students in their particular area of interest.

Supporting Students to achieve their dreams

As costs of living increase we recognise that life as a student can be difficult.  Here at the College we pride ourselves in providing high levels of support for our students, whether that be academic, pastoral, emotional or financial.

To help our students manage in these challenging times, we provide funding towards, for example, new laptops, improved broadband connections or travel grants to help them fill the car and come to study with their peers.

We also provide funds for students who have come to us from a background of living in care, as well as supporting students with international registration fees and attending professional events.

It is always humbling to read how much some students struggle financially and yet remain resolute in their dream to become a chiropractor.   We continue to do our best to support them in that dream!

Planning for the future!

The senior staff and department heads of the McTimoney College had a really enjoyable and productive staff development day yesterday as we reflected on what we did well and where we might be able to modify and improve things for the future.  This last year has been incredibly busy as we have established our own independent higher education educational institution and made the initial changes we had planned to take the McTimoney College forward under the College of Health. One thing we all agreed on was that the student experience is at the heart of all that we do, and while we know we have an amazingly positive relationship with our student body, anything we could do to enhance that was central to our vision of the future.  The bottles on the table were only water, but everyone still managed to have fun engaging with each other in a relaxed and focused ‘Away Day’.

50 year anniversary!

Hard to believe that the McTimoney College of Chiropractic is now 50 years old and throughout this period we have gone from strength to strength. Founded by John McTimoney in 1972 we are one of the oldest established chiropractic colleges in the UK, and indeed the world.  Founded on Palmer principles, we have stayed true to the original roots of chiropractic whilst developing into an independent higher education institution with campuses in both Abingdon and Manchester, recognised by the Office for Students, the Quality Assurance Agency, the General Chiropractic Council, and the European Council for Chiropractic Education.  And in the animal world, we offer the only Master’s level qualification in animal chiropractic in the world and are accredited by the Register for Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) and the Animal Health Professions Register (AHPR).

We think John McTimoney would be proud of the College today – highly accredited, delivering unique programmes designed to support access to education and, importantly, continuing to graduate the chiropractors of the future!

Celebrating at our Manchester Campus too!

College clinic wins national quality award!

We are pleased to announce that the McTimoney College of Chiropractic has once again been awarded the Clinical Management Quality Mark (CMQM) by The Royal College of Chiropractors.
The CMQM is awarded to chiropractic clinics that demonstrate excellence in terms of operating within a well-structured and managed clinical environment. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in a range of areas including clinical audit, incident reporting and patient satisfaction.
We are therefore delighted that our commitment to operating in such a professional way to enhance the experience of our patients has been recognised.

Ground-breaking Anatomage tables secured for both Abingdon and Manchester Campuses!

We are delighted to announce that the McTimoney College has been successful in winning a competitive government capital grant for £220,000, specifically to purchase multiple Anatomage Tables to augment our students’ learning.
One of the most technologically advanced 3D anatomy visualisation and virtual dissection tools for anatomy and physiology education in the world, the Anatomage system allows students to access online cadavers and interact electronically with the body’s structures and functions. Anatomage is being adopted by many of the world’s leading medical schools, as its innovative approach to digital anatomy presentation, radiology software and clinical content revolutionise the way that students can access human and animal bodies.
Winning this grant is a big step forward for the College as it enhances its electronic resources and takes its place at the forefront of chiropractic provision.

Announcing our New Olympian Scholarship

We are pleased to announce the first scholarship for Olympians to be offered from a chiropractic education institution in Europe. Working closely with FICS – the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic – the McTimoney College is proud to provide a route to becoming a chiropractor for those engaged in any Olympic sport.

We recognise the commitment and dedication it takes to compete in sports at Olympic level. Our students also demonstrate the same commitment and dedication in their studies.

We therefore believe that our unique Master of Chiropractic (MChiro) programme, which is designed for those who want to continue to work whilst studying, is the perfect way to combine training at the highest levels in sport with training to become a chiropractor.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in this opportunity, we are recruiting now for our January 2022 intake. Please contact us here.

A Warm Welcome to Our New Students

Back to normal! It’s great to have our 4-year MChiro students back in the building again at the start of term. Although throughout the pandemic we have been teaching our students on campus for practical and clinical studies, it is a real milestone to go back to normal for the entire curriculum and to see our students back face-to-face engaging with everyone – just as they used to!

There have been some advantages to online learning, and we will keep the best of that, but so many students have struggled with isolation during the pandemic, we are particularly pleased to bring them back fully onto campus once again.

There have been some real changes over the summer, one of which is the significant upgrade to our IT and virtual learning environment (VLE) to enhance the students’ learning experience.

Here they are in the lecture

theatre logging on for the first time with their laptops and mobile devices and getting used to the new look and feel of the system.

The day after lessons begin in earnest!

If you are interested in becoming a chiropractor, our January intake for the MChiro is currently recruiting.

We also have a January Access programme for those who do not have the correct qualifications for direct entry.

Please contact us for more information.

Graduation 2021

In August 2021, we were delighted to host our much delayed Graduation Ceremony which should have happened in April 2020! If anyone can remember that far back, it was called first lockdown! We also ‘caught up’ our April 2021 Grads who also were delayed by yet another lockdown.

Held at the prestigious Oxford Union with its impressive surroundings it was important to us and to our students that we graduated them face-to-face rather than the virtual world so they could revel in their achievements and relax with a glass of champagne with their friends and family in the real world!

The ceremonies were well received by all attending and we are so proud of our graduates who are starting off their careers in the middle of a global pandemic!

Graduation is always a bittersweet occasion – we are so happy to see our students achieve their dreams and so sorry to see them go. But the day was amazing to see two year groups graduate who have met incredible challenges in completing their studies and are now starting practice life in the middle of unprecedented times.
